Computer Education Programme:

Computer Education Programme has been introduced in JawaharNavodayaVidyalayas since 1991 of the 598 functional JNVs as on date, almost all JNVs have been provided with computers and accessories and a computer teacher to ensure Computer Education Programme goes on successfully in these JNVs.

All the JNVs are provided Internet facilities with Broad Band connection and 
they have access to 24 hours Internet connection. Earlier 201 JNVs had VSAT Internet connectivity.After Broad Band Connection, the VSAT connection has been disconnected.

A total of 33 schools, one in each State / Union Territory have been selected as Smart Schools to make as model schools in respect of computer education. They are having more than 40 computers with needed software and accessories with two computer teachers and computer courses and also provided at +2 state in these JNVs.

Microsoft with an objective to train all the teachers of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti on ‘How to incorporate IT in Education' have their Training Programme ‘Project Shiksha’ going on throughout the year in 9 different locations.

 New initiatives

• More JNVs are being covered under Broad Band connectivity.

• Selected number of JNVs are covered under EDUSAT connectivity.

• Each of JNV is to ensure to have minimum 30 number of Computers.

Use of Information and Communication Technology in Education

The objectives have been revised from time to time and the present objectives are:


1.     The programme will be for all students from class VI to XII

2.     Computers have been introduced  in school to create computer culture for young school goers and to help children understand the technology in a study period of 3-4 years

3.     To familiarize students with the range of computer applications for human activities and give an understanding of computer potential and information processing.

4.     To encourage teachers to use the technology in a creative way

5.     To provide hands-on experience to help students

6.     To enable children to get training covering a minimum of 75% of all contents prescribed by DOEACC for ‘O’ level examination.

7.     To use IT in services provided to the children.
